Lesson 5: How to increase your domain's sale price and attract premium buyers
This email is a part of a free course.
When you're ready to sell your domain, you want to get the best price possible.
Today, let’s break down what impacts a domain’s value and effective ways to increase it as much as possible.
How much is my domain worth?
Most brokers calculate a website’s value by looking at:
its current monthly revenue and profit
growth potential and traffic sources
niche
domain age and authority
website’s security/stability
website’s architecture
We can put it in a simple formula:
Average monthly profit for the 6-12 months x 20-50 = Domain Price ($)
So, if your website has been making $1,000 a month in profit for the last six months, and brokers give it a score of 40, your website's valuation would be $40,000.
5 failproof ways to increase your domain’s value
Of course, not all websites are money-makers from the get-go.
If you have a starter website that has zero revenue, you can still pump up its value. Here’s how:
Implement basic branding
Simple things like a well-made logo or a cohesive font and color scheme can make your domain stand out and attract more buyers.
Add content
Ideally, you’d want to fill the website with quality content.
If time and resources permit, prioritize crafting high-quality content manually rather than relying on AI-generated material, even if this results in a lower volume of posts. This approach will not only ensure your domain's inclusion in Google's index but also has the potential to captivate your initial audience with its authenticity and depth.
Optimize for SEO
Optimized on-site SEO will get your website indexed faster and rank higher in search engines.
Build backlinks
High-quality backlinks from reputable sites are like votes of confidence in your website.
They will improve your domain visibility and authority, and thus increase its value.
Many clients highly value metrics like Ahrefs’ DR. You can check your site’s DR here.
Leverage social media
It’s good practice to register a domain and immediately grab the available social media handles for the domain name.
The more subscribers and engagement you manage to get on your social channels, the higher the final selling price.
Got a domain and no website?
Flipping a domain successfully means you have to show its potential for future profitability and growth.
In my opinion, building websites for your domains - especially the ones that aren’t very short or mindblowing - is the first step you should focus on.
Implement the 5 strategies above and you are well on your way to turning $15 into $3000 or more.
Good luck and cheers,
