Lesson 1: Bold Opinion: Dot Com domain names are a secure investment and will not be affected by AI for at least 20 years
This email is a part of a free course.
I want to talk about something I've been doing for over 15 years: investing in domain names.
Domain investors. There are dozens of us!
Many people don't know that dot com domain names are literally like gold(the commodity). They've been becoming more valuable since they were first made available in the 90s. Not many people invest in domain names. Look at the history of domain name sales at NameBio.
Right now, I own more than 2,000 domain names. Every year, it costs me $32,000 just to keep them. Let that sink in. It’s like a property tax. A couple of years ago my husband thought I’m crazy. He doesn’t think that anymore. I just sold a dot com domain to an AI YCombinator startup.
There aren't many ways to protect our money from losing value over time. Most people put their money in something called an ETF, like the VTSAX, and think that's enough. Some might buy precious metals, but those aren't as reliable as investing in the S&P500.
I want to talk more about domain names because I really think they are a hidden gem, as reliable as investing in the S&P500.
Do you know what every company in the S&P500 has? Their own dot com domain name. But, for some reason unbeknownst to me, almost nobody is talking about investing in domain names.
Domain names are like owning a piece of the internet, so they can't be taken over by AI or become useless. They're very valuable. They are literally like the real estate market but digital.
Interesting fact: There was never a crash in the value of domain names. While tech investments saw a big crash(was that in 2000?), domain names kept their value.
The problem is: picking the right domain names to invest in takes a lot of knowledge and experience.
The solution is, unfortunately, to learn by making mistakes. Fortunately there is not that much competition in this space.
Every week, I'll send you detailed intelligence-level reports about how to invest in domain names. So that I can make it easier for you.
This is my passion.
All the best,
Amber
